I Won’t Let You Suffer, Adeleke Tells PWDs In Osun

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of People with Disabilities (PWDs), ensuring they are not left behind in the state's development. He emphasized that his government would take proactive steps to meet their basic needs and uplift their quality of life.

On November 30, 2024, during an event held in Osogbo, Adeleke distributed health insurance cards to 9,500 PWDs who had been enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme. The initiative was offered free of charge, underscoring the administration’s dedication to inclusive healthcare. In addition to the health insurance cards, Adeleke also provided essential life-support gadgets, including automated and manual wheelchairs, crutches, artificial limbs, and walking sticks, to improve the mobility and daily living of the beneficiaries.

The Governor expressed his pride in supporting the PWD community, stating, “I am extremely glad to present the OHIS cards, which will grant free healthcare access to people living with disabilities across the state. This gesture is not just about the cards, but also about providing state-of-the-art medical aids and mobility gadgets to ensure that they lead more meaningful lives. They are my people; they voted for me and continue to show unwavering support.”

Adeleke also revealed plans to provide some PWDs with free surgical procedures to treat ailments and further enhance their well-being. This initiative is part of the state government’s broader effort to integrate PWDs into society by improving their access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.

The Governor’s commitment to the welfare of PWDs was echoed by the Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA), Dr. Razak Akindele. He affirmed that the agency would continue to ensure that vulnerable groups, including PWDs, receive quality healthcare services free of charge. Akindele praised the initiative as a critical step in addressing the healthcare needs of marginalized groups, ensuring that no one is left behind in the state’s healthcare framework.

This event is part of a larger strategy by the Adeleke administration to address the challenges faced by PWDs in Osun State. While the distribution of health insurance cards and mobility aids is a significant milestone, the state government has also been working to improve physical infrastructure and increase public awareness about the rights and needs of people with disabilities.

By prioritizing the welfare of PWDs, Adeleke aims to create a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their physical challenges, has equal access to opportunities and resources. The Governor’s efforts are seen as a promising step toward creating a more equitable society for all residents of Osun State.
