He said; *"I am a product of one of the secondary schools in Oguta, and I have decided to carry secondary schools in my constituency along.
“I have invited you so as to fashion out modalities for the quiz competition. Each of the schools will bring three candidates; two candidates from the SS3 class and one candidate from the JS3 class.
“The prizes to be won will be in three categories; first, second and third prizes will be won, and it will be in English Language, Mathematics And Current Affairs.
“I will like it to hold in Orsu-Obodo Community, and it will be in November 2024, but let us see if it will be a one-day or two-day programme. There is low morale in education among students, so this quiz competition is a wake-up call, to reawaken the educational consciousness in our children.
“Outside the quiz competition, we want students to develop interest in agriculture (demonstration farm) and craftsmanship. Apart from formal education, skill acquisition is what gives one a brand name. With your brand name, you create employment for yourself and for others, which helps to reduce crime rate. I have invited you so that we can reason together and put the modalities into focus. I want a collaborative input".
In their separate responses, the principals thanked the lawmaker for inviting them to rub minds on issues that concern their students and how to encourage them to excel in their academic pursuits.
They assured him of their readiness for collaboration to achieve optimal outcome.
They however pleaded for more time to properly prepare their students for the quiz competition, stressing that some secondary schools in Oguta LGA have challenges such as inadequate manpower, especially in science subjects.
In his vote of thanks, the Principal of St Michael’s Secondary School Orsu-Obodo, S. U. Opara, lauded Hon Gilbert Nwosu, describing him as a good man, who loves empowering and encouraging students in educational programmes.
He recalled that Hon Nwosu had been registering students for both WAEC and JAMB examinations before he became a legislator, equipped the science laboratory of his school with state-of-the-art equipment.
He prayed God to continue to guide the footsteps of the lawmaker, as he continues to render selfless services to students, not only in Oguta but also across the state.
Principals of 14 secondary schools from Oguta LGA attended the meeting.
