Jandor Quits PDP, Cites Betrayal, Vows Fresh Start

Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was the former governorship candidate for Lagos. His departure marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Lagos, as Jandor had been a key figure in PDP’s strategy for the state. He made the announcement at a press conference held in Lagos, where he addressed journalists and explained the reasons for his decision.

Speaking before a large group of supporters, Jandor detailed how months of reflection and consultations with his family, political allies, and associates culminated in his choice to sever ties with the PDP. He attributed his exit to internal conflicts within the party, specifically pointing to the actions of certain PDP leaders who, according to him, actively worked against the party's candidate during the 2023 elections.

Jandor singled out Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, as one of the key figures whose actions he found detrimental to the party’s success. Jandor explained that these leaders, rather than supporting the PDP’s candidates, had secretly undermined the party’s efforts, contributing to its defeat in Lagos.

"Several PDP leaders worked covertly against the party's own candidates, and this was confirmed when Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, openly admitted that such betrayals took place," Jandor revealed.

He expressed his deep frustration with the lack of accountability within the PDP, noting that no disciplinary actions were taken against those responsible for these betrayals. He added that the appointment of Chief Olabode George as Vice Chairman of the PDP’s Disciplinary Committee was especially disheartening for loyal party members, describing it as a move that further eroded his confidence in the party's leadership.

“The level of betrayal is shocking, and the fact that no action was taken against those involved shows that the PDP has lost its way. I can no longer be part of a system that rewards disloyalty,” Jandor said.

Despite his disappointment with the PDP, Jandor assured his supporters that his political career was far from over. While he did not reveal his next political steps, he emphasized that his focus remains on delivering positive change for the people of Lagos. He stated that he would continue to engage with key stakeholders to determine the best political platform for his future ambitions.

“We will consult widely with everybody, and when the time is right, we will make our next move,” he said, leaving the door open to the possibility of aligning with a different political party. “What’s clear for now is that we have left the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Jandor's departure from the PDP comes at a time when internal rifts within the party have increasingly come to light, raising questions about its future prospects in Lagos. His decision to part ways with the PDP, particularly after serving as its governorship candidate, is a blow to the party’s efforts to regain momentum in Nigeria's most populous state.

“This is not the end,” Jandor concluded. “This is the beginning of a new chapter—one driven by sincerity, progress, and true service to the people.”
