In a remarkable and historic outcome, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved an unprecedented clean sweep in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, securing victories in all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the APC’s candidate, emerged as the resounding winner, delivering a crushing defeat to his opponent, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The final results, officially confirmed today by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were announced at the INEC headquarters in Akure. Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola oversaw the final collation, marking the conclusion of a race that saw Aiyedatiwa clinch an overwhelming majority of votes across the state.
With a commanding total of 366,781 votes, Aiyedatiwa left Agboola trailing far behind, who secured only 117,845 votes. This victory not only highlights the APC's dominance in Ondo but also signals a strong endorsement of Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, positioning him to take office as the next governor of the state.
The scale of Aiyedatiwa's victory marks a significant political shift in Ondo State, further solidifying the APC’s control and signaling a tough road ahead for the opposition in future elections. The result represents a complete rejection of the PDP’s campaign, leaving little room for contestation in the wake of such a sweeping mandate.
