Kogi Govt To Establish A New Economic Zone

The Kogi State Government has commenced the process of establishing a unique economic zone, set as a free trade center, within the Ajaokuta economic development area.

Special Adviser to the Governor, Ismaila Isah gave the indication in a statement on Thursday in Lokoja.

He explained that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo said this during a working visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Isah said that the governor’s visit was triggered by the need to seek support from NEPZA’s in other to facilitate the special economic zone, a project which kick-started over ten years ago.

In his statement, he further stated that the proposed economic zone will transform the state into a major economic hub in Nigeria: "The proposed special economic zone will transform the state into a major economic hub in Nigeria, as well as create thousands of job opportunities for Nigerians”.

Speaking further, he assured that the state government would take on all necessary actions to ensure the project’s establishment.

On his part, NEPZA’s Managing Director, Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, admitted to the authority’s support by activating processes for timely approval, licensing, and other assistance needed to establish the special economic zone.

Dr. Ogunyemi in his speech, also extended a hand of appreciation to Governor Ododo for his efforts towards enforcement of infrastructural development, worker welfare, and the security of lives and property across the State.

Also , in line with the requirements for establishing the proposed economic zone, the Kogi State Government before now allocated three thousand hectares of land within the Ajaokuta development corridor for the project, which will be funded through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

As the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo is ready to take the reins and lead with an unwavering commitment to bring about genuine change.

His governance is equitable, ensuring that the standard of living for all citizens reaches new heights, following his recent landmark projects.

Human Capital Development , Economic growth, agricultural sector amongst other Projects are pointers to birthing quantum growth, creation of new job opportunities for the citizens of Kogi state.
