The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has condemned the ongoing loss of lives due to the prolonged interstate boundary dispute between Abia and Akwa Ibom States.
Adamu Adaji, the NBC Director-General voiced his concerns during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, aimed at resolving the dispute.
Adaji expressed regret over the loss of valuable lives due to differing perceptions and claims regarding the interstate boundary between Abia and Akwa Ibom States.
He remarked, “It is unfortunate that lives have been lost because of these differences in perception and claims over the boundary between the two states.
“This is something that must be stopped by all of us.”
The DG urged for a peaceful and amicable resolution of the dispute, emphasizing that the NBC is committed to leading efforts to clearly define the interstate boundary.
He stated that the meeting was convened to seek a lasting solution to the boundary dispute between Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
Adaji expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration between the states and the NBC would ensure the security and well-being of the people.
He added that this partnership would pave the way for peace and progress, benefiting both the states and the nation as a whole.
