Nedu Slams VDM With A N500m Lawsuit For Defamation

Popular media personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known as Nedu Wazobia, has taken legal action against social media commentator VeryDarkMan aka VDM over alleged defamatory statements. The dispute stems from claims made by VeryDarkMan in a viral video accusing Nedu of misappropriating scholarship funds intended for Nigerians.

VDM disclosed the lawsuit in a post on his Instagram account, revealing that he had received a pre-action notice from Nedu’s legal team. According to the notice, the 12-minute video in question, titled “How Nedu Diverted NGO Scholarship Meant for Nigerians” was published on February 19, 2025, via YouTube and Instagram.

Nedu’s legal representatives, along with Tokindrumz Picture and Media Ltd, argued that the video contained false, misleading, and defamatory statements aimed at damaging their client’s reputation. They clarified that Nedu is not the owner of Tokindrumz but merely a talent associated with the company.

In response to the allegations, Nedu’s legal team has made several demands:

Immediate Removal of the Video; VeryDarkMan has been instructed to take down all videos featuring Nedu from his social media platforms within 24 hours of receiving the notice.

Public Apology; He must issue a formal apology, retracting his statements.

Financial Compensation; A sum of ₦500 million has been requested as damages for the harm allegedly inflicted on Nedu’s reputation.

Failure to comply with these demands, the legal team warned, would result in court proceedings against VDM.

VDM Acknowledging the legal notice, took to Instagram to inform his followers about the impending lawsuit. In a video, he said, “Nedu’s lawyers have served me o, so make una get ready for court case.”

His response suggests that he is prepared to challenge the lawsuit, setting the stage for a potential legal battle between the two public figures.

Defamation cases involving public figures often draw significant attention, particularly when they involve social media disputes. If the case proceeds to court, it could set a precedent for how online content creators and influencers engage with celebrities and brands in Nigeria.

For now, all eyes are on VDM to see whether he will comply with Nedu’s demands or take the matter to trial. Regardless of the outcome, the controversy has already sparked widespread debate about accountability, free speech, and the legal consequences of making public allegations without substantial proof.
