The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has dissolved the executive members of the Itsekiri National Youths Council over alleged non compliance to adopting details contained in the new constitution.
According to reports gathered from a palace source, it noted with concerns that, the process of having an executive position in the Itsekiri Narional Youth Council, for about 30 years, is linked to the loyalty of Youths displayed to leaders.
“the process of having an executive position in the lNYC, for about 30 years, has been by selection of persons loyal to certain leaders" the source started.
The Olu of Warri made the announcement of the dissolution of the youth executives on Monday, in a palace announcement at a well-attended Itsekiri Youths Assembly.
The monarch mentioned that he insisted on the dissolution of the INYC executive in other to pave the way for a constitution drafting committee and fresh elections into the body.
The announcement attributed the dissolution of the INYC executive to “the failure of the youth body to successfully adopt a new constitution and conduct an election to elect new executives at the National and chapter levels.”
The announcement in the statement has it that, the Palace has immediately appointed Presidents of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates and National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) as the frontliners of the committee to saddled with the responsibility of drafting a new constitution for INYC, with Chief Omolubi Newuwumi and Chief Wilson Olley working as Advisers respectively.
"In the interim, the Palace has immediately appointed Presidents of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates and National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) as the core of a committee to draft a new constitution for INYC, with Chief Omolubi Newuwumi and Chief Wilson Olley working as Advisers” it stated.
According to reports gathered, the constitution drafting committee, which is likely to have more members, “has up to the end of January 2025 to conclude its assignment, for a new executive council of INYC to be elected”.
The Olu of Warri also made the declaration that nobody above age 40 should be operating as a youth in the Warri Kingdom moving forward.
