A non-indigene nurse working in Lagos state, identified as Nurse Ugbede on twitter is facing heavy backlash online after posting a controversial tweet claiming that "Lagos is smelly." This remark has stirred emotions, with several Lagosians expressing offense and calling for her dismissal from her government hospital job.
The situation escalated when an X user, Bayo, who identifies as a Lagos resident, tagged the Lagos State Government, urging them to sack the nurse, stating that her comment disrespects the city. As her tweet gained attention, more Lagosians joined the call for her to lose her job, arguing that her position in a state hospital implies a need for respect toward Lagos and its people.
However, the nurse’s post also attracted supporters who defended her right to express her opinion. One supporter even offered her an alternative job if she decides to leave her current role, to which the nurse responded that she’s considering the offer due to receiving “scary calls” from her workplace. This incident has sparked discussions about freedom of speech versus professional conduct on social media.
