Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has taken a swipe at socialite Sophia Egbueje for showing off her newly acquired Lamborghini, despite the controversy surrounding her alleged relationship with singer Burna Boy.
Last week, Nigerian social media was abuzz after leaked audio surfaced, in which Sophia accused Burna Boy of having an affair with her and failing to fulfill his promise of buying her a Lamborghini. The revelation sparked widespread discussions, with many questioning the nature of their relationship and the legitimacy of her claims.
Rather than addressing the allegations, Sophia took to social media to display her new luxury car, proudly stating that she purchased it herself after Burna Boy failed to deliver on his promise. Her bold move drew mixed reactions, with some celebrating her financial success while others criticized her motives.
Among those displeased was Patrick Doyle, who strongly condemned Sophia’s actions. He accused her of flaunting her wealth despite what he described as a shameful means of livelihood”. Doyle also expressed his disappointment in those who congratulated her, arguing that such behavior promotes questionable values in society.
In a social media post, Doyle wrote; “She boasted about the value of her wristwatch and flaunted a 600 million Naira car. The combined value of both items is in the range of 650 to 750 million Naira. Some half-wits were impressed and effusively congratulated her as she smiled and flaunted both items, as if we hadn’t heard about her shameful means of livelihood. Meanwhile, I can bet that there are members of her extended family who are going through a tough time. The romanticizing of iniquity has become the stock-in-trade of dim-wits amongst us.”
Doyle’s comments sparked further debate online, with some social media users supporting his stance, while others defended Sophia, arguing that she had the right to spend her money as she pleased.
This incident has once again raised concerns about the glorification of wealth and materialism, particularly on social media.
