Bola Tinubu, President of Nigeria has urged the Senate to confirm the nomination of seven ministerial nominees for appointment as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and read at the beginning of the plenary on Thursday.
The Ministerial nominees as contained in the letter are Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda; officially bringing an end to the tenure of suspended Betta Edu. Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, and Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odinaka Odumegu – -Ojukwu.
Others are, Minister of Industry, Trade and Development, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Muktar Maiha;, Minister of State, Housing Yusuf Abdullahi Ata and, Minister of State, Education, Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad.
President Tinubu in the letter, sought for expeditious consideration of his request by the Senate.
Accordingly as announced by Akpabio, the Senate referred the presidential request to the Committee of the Whole for consideration very soon.
He said, ” Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request is referred to the committee of the whole for consideration very soon.”
Akpabio referred the nominees to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action as soon as possible.
Recall that the President Bola Tinubu discharged five ministers from cabinet during his administration's cabinet reshuffle and also re-assigned 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios and appointed seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.
The President sacked Uju-Ken Ohanenye as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.
The Presidency in a statement said. “The appointment of Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports
Commission.
“The appointment of Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation working from the
Ministry of Information and National Orientation,”
“The president thanked the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council for their service to the nation while wishing them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement added.
The President appreciated the outgoing members of the Federal ExecutiveCouncil for their service to the nation while wishing them the best in their future endeavours.
He then charged the newly appointed ministers as well as their reassigned colleagues to see their appointment as a call to serve the nation.
