R&B Star Angie Stone, 63 Dies In Tragic Car Crash

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone has died at the age of 63 following a fatal car accident in Alabama. Her daughter, Diamond Stone, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post, writing; “My mommy is gone.”

According to reports, Stone was traveling in a van that overturned early Saturday morning after a performance. The accident occurred in Montgomery, Alabama, and resulted in her tragic death. Several other passengers were in the vehicle at the time, but Stone was the only fatality.

Stone was a beloved figure in the music industry, known for her soulful hits like ‘No More Rain’ (In This Cloud) and ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You’.

Over the course of her career, she earned three Grammy nominations and left a lasting impact on R&B and hip-hop.

Her musical journey began in the 1970s as part of the female hip-hop trio “The Sequence”. The group gained recognition for their song ‘Funk You Up’, which reached No. 15 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart. This early success paved the way for Stone’s transition into R&B, where she became a major influence in the neo-soul movement of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Stone’s daughter, who is also a musician known as Ladi Diamond, expressed her grief on social media, saying she felt numb after losing her mother. Just hours before the tragic news, she had asked for prayers for her family while traveling on the road.

A spokesperson for Stone’s family confirmed that they had traveled to Montgomery and would release more information soon.

Hip-hop pioneer Guy Todd Williams, also known as Rahiem from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, shared details about the crash. He revealed that there were approximately nine other passengers in the van with Stone when the accident occurred.

“She left her indelible mark on the music industry initially as a member of the legendary rap group Sequence,” Williams said. He confirmed that Stone was the only person who lost their life in the crash.

Authorities in Montgomery have yet to release an official report on the accident. The cause of the crash remains unclear.

Beyond her music, Stone also had a notable presence in film. She made her acting debut in 2002 with a role in The Hot Chick, a comedy starring Rob Schneider, Rachel McAdams, and Anna Faris. A year later, she appeared in The Fighting Temptations, alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé.

Stone’s passing marks a significant loss for the music industry and her fans. With a career spanning several decades, she was a pioneer in both hip-hop and R&B, influencing generations of artists. Her distinctive voice, heartfelt lyrics, and contributions to music and film have left an enduring legacy.

As tributes pour in from across the industry, Stone’s family and friends mourn the loss of a talented artist and beloved mother. More details about memorial services are expected to be announced soon.
