Rivers Community In Bayelsa Celebrates Historic Inauguration

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Rivers Community in Bayelsa State made history as they gathered in solidarity under the sweltering sun to witness the inauguration of the 8th Executive Council of the Federated Union of Rivers Indigenes in Bayelsa State (FURIBS). The momentous event took place at the De-Gracious Event Center in Yenagoa, where members from all walks of life united to herald a new administration set to lead the community for the next four years.


In his inaugural address, the newly elected President, His Excellency Barisuka Prince, expressed profound gratitude to God and underscored the importance of unity among the diverse ethnic groups that make up the Rivers indigenes. He recognized the tireless efforts of the union’s founding fathers in bringing the community together.


Barisuka extended his appreciation to Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, and Rivers State Governor in Bayelsa State, Hon. Dr. Madapuye Dokubo Felix, for their unwavering support and dedication to creating a peaceful environment conducive to progress. He commended the recent electoral process, which was characterized by cooperation and maturity, and served as a model for other communities facing challenges.


"I want to express my gratitude to His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Madapuye Dokubo, for his exemplary leadership," Barisuka stated. "Together, we have shown that despite our ethnic differences, we can unite for the betterment of our people."


The new president committed to empowering Rivers indigenes, particularly women and youth, through strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing skill development and supporting small businesses. “As a team, we will collaborate with reputable organizations to provide our people with essential skills and soft loans to help them thrive,” he pledged.


In closing, Barisuka called for unity and collaboration, emphasizing that collective effort is vital for overcoming challenges and achieving shared aspirations. The new leadership is dedicated to strengthening the ties among Rivers indigenes, ensuring their voices resonate and their contributions are recognized throughout Bayelsa State.
