Rivers LG Polls: RSIEC Unveils Voter Register

With few days to the conduct of the October 5th Local Government elections, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC has officially unveiled the voters' register.

The Chairman of RSIEC, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli who led officials of the Commission to display the voters register on Thursday at Rumuodara Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state, reiterated the commitment of RSIEC to conduct a free, fair, and credible as well as violence-free election in Rivers State.

Retired Justice Enebeli said the display of the voter register offers citizens the opportunity to confirm that their names are on the register and be certain of which polling unit to cast their vote insisting that the Commission has constantly demonstrated its resolve to offer a level playing field to all political parties and their candidates.

Responding to questions from newsmen on how the voters register was obtained, despite the subsisting court order restraining INEC from releasing such documents to RSIEC, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli said the electoral body is a law-abiding and unbiased umpire.

He said that the commission under his watch has been proactive in all its activities, which made it possible for them to obtain the documents last year even before the court orders.

On their parts, the Paramount Ruler of Rumudara, His Royal Highness, Eze John Enyinda-Amadi, and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Council, who was represented by Chimaruoke Onukem commended RSIEC for using the display of voters register to awaken their spirits ahead of the forthcoming council election. They also expressed confidence in the ability of the commission to conduct a credible election.

In the meantime, the National Chairman of the Action People's Party APP, Uchenna Nnadi says no group or individual will stop the conduct of the Local Government Elections in Rivers State. Uchenna Nnadi said this at the end of its three-day senatorial district campaign rally held at Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Port Harcourt. He also urged Rivers people to vote massively for APP candidates during the election.

The State Party Chairman of the Action People's Party Sunny Wokekoro, said no amount of intimidation or manipulation by the opposition parties in the state can make them lose the election.
