Three Feared Dead in Anambra Accident

No fewer than three persons are feared dead in an accident which occurred at the Oye Agu Market, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle involved, lost control and crashed into the community market killing buyers and sellers alike.

The tragic incident reportedly occured on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

More details of the car crash are still emerging but videos of the incident captured by eye witnesses are currently trending on the social media.

The trending videos of the accident shows the crashed Sienna vehicle and some of the traders who were crushed to death as a result of the accident.

The video making the round further revealed some of the goods that were destroyed by the crashed vehicle, as well as some survivors of the accident, including a young man who was rescued from under the vehicle with the assistance of some good-spirited passersby at the scene of the incident.

Speculations have it that some victims of the accident were still trapped under the vehicle as at the time the trending video was taken by eyewitnesses at the accident scene.

While speaking to newsmen, the President-General of Abagana community, Engr. Ben Okongwu confirmed the incident, and further disclosed that no fewer than three persons died in the motor crash, including an under-aged, while some other persons suffered various amounts of injuries.

According to Engr. Okongwu, from findings, the accident was as a result of the driver of the Sienna car, who must obviously have been over-speeding, losing control.

The Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, RC Margaret Onabe, when contacted by news men said she was yet to be briefed about the incident, adding that she was just getting to learn about the tragic incident.

She, however, assured the journalists of the Corps' commitment to making further inquiries and revert to them concerning the incident.

It will be recall that in July this year, people commuting between Kano and Kaduna states in North West Nigeria were involved in a road crash at the Dangwaro Flyover axis along the popular Kano-Zaria Road claiming 25 lives and leaving about 53 others seriously injured.
