Unregistered Masquerades Banned from Iwuanyanwu's Burial Ceremony

Unidentified masquerades have been banned from attending the funeral ceremony of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a renowned elder statesman, on November 1, 2024.

The police in Imo State are taking the measure to ensure the safety of people and property during the interment of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who passed away in Abuja on July 25 due to an undisclosed illness.

The spokesman of the police in the state, ASP Henry Okoye told our correspondent that a high-powered security meeting presided over by the state Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the command's headquarters in Owerri to fine-tune security details for the funeral.

ASP Okoye listed heads of security agencies and the Special Adviser on Security Affairs and the state Commissioner for Homeland Security as those who attended the meeting.

The police spokesman disclosed that the one item agendum of the meeting centred on enhanced security measures for the burial ceremony of the late publisher, business man and industrialist.

Okoye said; "The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, on 29/10/2024, met with the heads of security agencies in the state, the Special Adviser on Security Affairs, and the Commissioner for Imo State Homeland Security at the Command’s Headquarters Owerri, to discuss enhanced security measures for the burial ceremony of Late Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu.

"The meeting allowed service commanders to develop a comprehensive security plan for the event. Retired General Azubuike Ihejirika and retired CP Dan Okoro who were also in attendance provided valuable insights.

"To ensure safety, all entry and exit points into the state have been reinforced, and reconnaissance operations have been conducted at event centers with joint security personnel strategically deployed. Road Safety and Police traffic wardens have been tasked with effective traffic management and control. Personnel are expected to uphold the highest professional standards in their duties.

"Importantly, no unprofiled masquerades will be allowed near the venue. Masquerade groups intending to perform at the event must register with the DSS.

"Members of the public intending to attend the event can be assured of their safety, as robust security measures are in place to ensure a peaceful celebration. However, those with criminal intentions are advised to stay away, as they will be apprehended.

"The security agencies are committed to partnering with stakeholders and event organizers to provide a safe environment for all who come to honor Chief Iwuanyanwu’s legacy."
