Vigilance Group Arrests 3 For Robbing, Shooting of Bizman

A local vigilance group, Ebubeagu in Orlu, Imo State has reportedly arrested and detained three suspects for allegedly robbing and shooting a petrol station operator, Mr. Celestine Chidi Okolie.

Okolie's brother, Emmanuel disclosed this at the weekend while speaking with our correspondent on telephone.

He disclosed that on August 31, they had closed and about to leave for home at their Total Petrol Station located along Old Owerri Road, Owerri Ebeiri when three armed men who rode on motorcycles swooped on them.

Emmanuel said all the people at station at the time of the robbery operation were commanded to lie down.

According to him, the robbers also collected the sales proceeds of that fateful day and their telephone handsets.

He said the robbers left but later returned to demand the second handset of Mr. Okolie which he also handed over to the robber.

One of the robbers, he said, shot at Mr. Okolie but missed him the first time, adding that the robber shot again this time at his jaw.

Emmanuel added that one young man who arrived the station without knowing about the robbery operation was also robbed of his motorcycle.

He said as the young man attempted bolting from the scene, the robbers caught him and beat him blue and black.

Emmanuel said the young man thereafter vowed to get the robbers arrested and has fulfilled his vow by getting the operatives of Ebubeagu to arrest the three suspects.

According to him, the matter has also been reported to the Police Area Command , Orlu .

Mr. Okolie is however battling for his life at a hospital in Owerri, the Imo State capital

Emmanuel further disclosed that St Mary's Hospital, Owerri Ebiri where Okolie was first taken to, could not handle his case resulting in Okolie being driven to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri which informed them that the members of staff of the hospital were on strike.

Mr. Okolie was thereafter moved to the hospital where he has spent close to one month. The hospital has stitched his jaw and put him in Plaster of Paris but the victim cannot talk coherently..

Emmanuel prayed that the ongoing investigation into the matter would yield fruits.

When contacted weekend, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Henry Okoye said the matter has not been reported to him. He wondered why the Area Command was yet to report the matter to the state command. Okoye also wondered why the local vigilance group was still keeping the suspects in its custody.
