The Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA) has taken step to improve public servant welfare and boost regional growth by passing two key bills: H.A.B. 22, the Abia State Pension Reform Bill, and H.A.B. 24, the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) Bill, 2024.
The Abia State Pension Reform Bill (H.A.B. 22) seeks to transform the pension system for public employees in the state. This legislation introduces a strong contributory pension scheme aimed at standardizing and safeguarding retirement benefits. It represents a major advancement in securing the financial future of our public servants and improving their welfare, aligning with international best practices.
At the same time, H.A.B. 24, The Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) Bill is positioned to transform Ohafia and its neighboring areas in Abia North. This bill envisions a vibrant change through strategic collaborations with private investors, funding for infrastructure, and the development of industrial clusters. It lays the groundwork for unprecedented growth, job opportunities, and industrialization, establishing the region as a burgeoning economic hub.
The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emereuwa and his colleagues expressed gratitude to Hon. Okoro Kalu, the lawmaker behind these crucial bills. They acknowledged his determination and dedication in sponsoring legislation that will have a significant impact on the community.
They also highlighted the collaborative effort and commitment to advancing the welfare of the people through meaningful reforms and initiatives. Emeruwa expressed the houses' commitment to supporting the Governor in all reforms aimed at benefiting Abia.
