The Abia State Government has announced plans to conduct supplementary exams for civil servants who failed the 2022 promotion exams held across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This decision follows reports of mass failure among many candidates in the August promotion examinations, which sparked concern about the effectiveness of the initial test.
The announcement was made in a press release signed by Ngozi Queen Obioma, the Head of Service (HoS) for Abia State, informing the public about the rescheduled exams. The release outlined the details of the upcoming retake for civil servants who missed or failed the initial promotion exams.
According to the HoS, the rescheduled examination is set to take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 9 a.m. It will be held at the Kanu Nwankwo Indoor Sports Hall, located within the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Obioma noted that the supplementary exams will give those who did not pass another opportunity to advance in their careers within the state’s civil service.
In addition, civil servants who were unable to participate in the original 2022/2023 promotion exams due to work-related responsibilities have also been instructed to take part in the upcoming retake.
The decision is expected to offer a fair opportunity for both those who failed and those who missed the exams altogether, ensuring that all qualified civil servants have the chance to advance and contribute more effectively to the state’s development.
She said that the move to offer a second chance comes as part of the state government's commitment to ensure that eligible workers are not disadvantaged by the initial poor results.
The Head of Service (HoS) stressed that civil servants eligible for the retake or new exams must adhere to the established instructions.
“Please note that the eligible civil/public servants who did not sit for the 2022/2023, written examination are to proceed to the Bureau of Establishments and Pensions for registration before or by the close of work on Friday, December 13, 2024, while those resitting are to use the same registration number issued for the previous examination", She stated.
This announcement highlights the state government's commitment to providing all eligible civil servants with a fair opportunity for career advancement.
Civil servants are advised to thoroughly prepare for the exams and strictly adhere to the outlined guidelines to avoid any complications on the exam day.
The Abia State Government has emphasized the importance of the exams in promoting efficiency and rewarding deserving civil servants with career progression.
