Abia Launches System for Faster Emergency Response

The Abia State Government has launched the Emergency Tripod System to enhance response times to medical, fire, and security emergencies.

Announced by Chukwunenye Alajemba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire, and Medical Emergencies, the initiative aims to streamline coordination and improve emergency services across the state for quicker, more efficient action.

Speaking during a public sensitization campaign in Umuahia on Friday, Alajemba emphasized that the state-of-the-art emergency service is "free for all" and built to be long-lasting.

He explained that the initiative, recently launched by Governor Alex Otti, aims to provide critical support for pregnant women during emergencies. "Maternal mortality has been a significant issue in Nigeria," he noted, adding that the Governor's goal is to ensure the swift and safe transportation of women in labor to medical facilities.

Alajemba also highlighted the system's features, including advanced ambulances, upgraded fire services, and improved security measures.

He stated, "We’ve deployed five advanced ambulances, each equipped with automated external defibrillators, oxygen tanks, nebulizers, and other vital equipment. Two ambulances are based in Aba, two in Umuahia, and one in Ohafia. Our goal is to achieve rapid response times, aiming to reach critical cases within four minutes."

Alajemba further emphasized that fire safety is a key aspect of the initiative, revealing that the fire department has been restructured to ensure faster response times, noting, "Every second counts in a fire emergency."

Currently operational in Aba and Umuahia, the system is set to expand into rural areas. Smaller patrol vehicles will soon be introduced to reach communities that larger ambulances cannot access.

Alajemba also mentioned that the ongoing sensitization campaign will extend to Aba and all 17 local government areas to raise awareness about the new services.

Despite economic challenges, he expressed confidence that the State Government would continue expanding the initiative, relying on public support and investments for its sustainability and growth.

He urged both Abians and residents in the diaspora to back the initiative and reminded locals that emergency services can be reached through the numbers 08133556900 or 020-122-75492, available for both calls and WhatsApp messages.

He also encouraged Abians, both locally and abroad, to support the Governor in his efforts to drive progress and achieve greater development for Abia.
