In preparation for next local government elections, Abia State Independent Electoral ,ABSIEC has extended invitations to political parties for a stakeholders meeting in Umuahia.

Dr. Kelechi Kemjika Okere, Commissioner II, Voter Education and Information, announced in a press release that on Saturday, September 21, 2024, Professor George N. Chima, Chairman of the Commission, will unveil the Commission's program of activities for the people of Abia and all relevant political stakeholders at the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) Headquarter.

Okere stated that the Commission has officially initiated its core mission to ensure the upcoming Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Abia State are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

"We are set to unveil our program of activities to ensure a smooth electoral process,” He emphasized.

He noted that this proactive approach highlights the Commission’s commitment to democratic values and transparency in the electoral process, aiming to build public trust and confidence through strict measures and stakeholder engagement.

According to the release, the party chairmen and secretaries of the 18 registered political parties are invited to attend the meeting to promote awareness of electoral transparency and accountability.

He highlighted the importance of the gathering, noting that discussions on electoral processes with stakeholders would facilitate a smooth election experience, and encouraged political leaders and representatives to attend and share their insights for a more inclusive and effective electoral environment.

Recall that, the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti swore in the Chairman, Prof. Chima and members of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), on the 5th of September, 2024, charging them not to bow to the pressure of compromise as such will amount to suicide.

“They will promise you heaven on earth but you must know that the very day you succumb, you would have committed suicide and will just be a matter of time before you find your way out. I do know that all of you are going to excel in this assignment” Gov. Otti said.
