Abia: Otti Begins Payment of Salary Arrears to civil sevants

The Abia State Government has begun payment of outstanding salary arrears to verified workers across various institutions, with the first batch of payments already disbursed.

In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the state government announced that it has started disbursing payments for salary arrears accumulated under the previous administration. He mentioned that the initiative fulfills Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to the people.

Kanu highlighted that this process is in line with Governor Alex Otti’s promises to the people, ensuring that overdue salary arrears from the previous administration are paid.

He revealed that the total amount being disbursed to verified workers is N17,629,767,342.09 (seventeen billion, six hundred twenty-nine million, seven hundred sixty-seven thousand, three hundred forty-two naira and nine kobo).

The commissioner announced that the payment will be allocated at 1.5 billion naira monthly, distributed according to a structured 12-month amortization plan to ensure effective management of the state's financial resources.

Prince Okey Kanu stressed that the phased payment approach aims to prevent disruptions in other crucial areas of governance, considering the constraints on financial resources.

"This structured payment plan aims to balance the allocation of financial resources by ensuring that other critical areas of governance continue to receive necessary attention. By spreading the payments over a set period, the plan helps manage financial constraints effectively while maintaining support for essential functions within the government.", he mentioned

The commissioner added, "With this development, the Dr. Alex Otti-led administration has once again shown its commitment to continuously promoting and sustaining the welfare of Abia State's civil servants."
