In a generous show of support for community development, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) A.A. Hamzat recently donated N450,000 towards the building project of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) at Zone 16 Headquarters in Yenagoa. The donation was made during the end-of-year thanksgiving event held on November 29, 2024, a momentous occasion attended by several key figures within the police force.
The spokesperson for Zone 16 Police Headquarters, SP Gunn Emonena, confirmed the donation and praised the AIG's unwavering commitment to the betterment of the community. AIG Hamzat, who has held his position with distinction, was accompanied by several senior officers, including the Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, DCP Evans Shem; the Assistant Commissioner for Zonal CID, ACP Martha; and the Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Gunn Emonena.
Bishop Moses, the chairman of the PCRC, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the AIG’s contributions, which he noted were not limited to financial donations but also to the positive impact Hamzat has had on the police force. Since taking office, AIG Hamzat has been recognized for his zero-tolerance approach to corruption, strong respect for human rights, and sensitivity to gender issues. Bishop Moses highlighted that complaints from the East-West road axis, which were common under previous leadership, had ceased, signaling that Hamzat’s leadership is one grounded in empathy and integrity.
In his speech, AIG Hamzat encouraged the members of the PCRC to continue their valuable work by providing timely and useful information to the police. He urged them to serve as ambassadors of peace, working to maintain the trust between the police and the community. "The police can only succeed with the cooperation of the public. Keep supporting us with vital information and continue to be an example of good conduct," Hamzat said.
The AIG also spoke about the importance of fostering collaboration between the police and the public in the fight against crime. He emphasized that such donations were a small part of the larger effort to improve police-community relations, ensuring the safety and security of everyone in the region.
AIG Hamzat’s tenure in Zone 16 has been marked by numerous reforms, and his support for the PCRC’s building project is just one example of his efforts to strengthen the police force and build a better, safer community. His actions have set a high standard for leadership within the Nigerian Police Force, and his continued focus on citizen engagement and empowerment promises even more positive developments in the future.
