AirPeace Refutes Claim of 100% Fare Increase Amid Viral Memo

The management of Air Peace has strongly refuted a viral post that claimed the airline has hiked its one-way flight fares between Lagos and Abuja to N200,000, starting from November 1, 2024. The airline described the information as false and misleading.

The controversy arose after an internal memo purportedly from the airline was shared online on October 22. According to the memo, the airline was said to be revising its domestic flight fares, effective November 1, 2024. It suggested that Air Peace’s business and economy class fares would see significant increases, with some categories experiencing hikes as high as 100%.

The viral memo indicated that the business class fares under booking class “J” would rise from N250,000 to N400,000, representing a 60% increase, while class “C” fares would increase from N200,000 to N330,000, reflecting a 65% hike. The memo further suggested that economy class fares under class “Y” would double from N150,100 to N300,000, a 100% increase. Other economy fares, according to the memo, would range from N120,000 to N210,000, depending on the category.

The internal memo reportedly clarified that existing fares, would remain valid for flights booked on or before October 31, 2024. It also mentioned that the new fares would be refundable and change fees would no longer be applied. However, a no-show fee increase, from N10,000 to N15,000, was said to be part of the new structure to encourage better booking practices.

Reacting to the viral post recently, Air Peace issued an official statement debunking the claims. The airline emphasized that no such fare increases have been announced and that any updates regarding its fares would be communicated only through its verified channels.

"We would like to categorically state that this information is false and did not originate from Air Peace. We have not released any official statement regarding a fare increase as described, and any announcements regarding our pricing would only be made through our verified channels," the statement read.

A check on the airline's website at the time of this report showed that a one-way flight from Lagos to Abuja for November 1, 2024, was priced around N114,000, far below the N200,000 claimed in the viral post.

Air Peace has urged its customers to rely solely on its official platforms for accurate information on fare

s and services.
