Prof. Chukwuma Soludo,Governor of Anambra State has condoled with the families and community members of those gruesomely murdered in the Nibo community in Awka South LGA of the state on Sunday.
The governor who spoke at Eke Market in Awka the State capital on Monday October, 21 while embarking on his routine monitoring of activities across the state,condemned the killings and vowed to apprehend the perpetrators.
Soludo also promised to fight and combat cultism in the state.
In a recent killing that occured in the State, it was learnt that about 13 persons were reportedly slained during a cult-related clash in Nibo while the community was holding its New Yam festival on Sunday.
Governor Soludo who urged the people to go about their lawful duties and businesses also said the perpetrators must be fished out from their hiding adding that they will be brought to justice according to the law.
He said, “Every avoidable loss of life in Anambra shatters my heart, especially when young lives are cut short. The mindless violence between rival cults in our communities is heartbreaking.
“Yesterday’s tragic incident in Nibo, where young lives were lost, is unacceptable. We have an anti-cultism law in place, and I have ordered immediate action against those involved.
“But laws alone aren’t enough. Parents and community leaders, let’s join forces to protect our youth! We can’t sit back while our children destroy themselves.
“Let’s take action at home and in our communities to end cultism. We will continue to pray for the lost souls and work towards a safer Anambra where people will live by the law and draw lessons from this avoidable tragedy.” He added.
Similarly, The Anambra State Government has promised bring to book those behind the cult-related killings that occurred at the Nibo community.
The hoodlums were said to have emerged from a Lexus 300 jeep and opened fire on people having fun at the arena, located near the Oye Nwochichi Market, by Nibo Old Maternity, thereby killing eight persons instantly before proceeding to another location where other casualties were also recorded.
In a press statement on Monday, October 21, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, in his response to the development, said the state government was aware of the incident and had commenced steps to hunt down the perpetrators.
