APGA Candidate Urges ABSIEC To Conduct Free, Fair Election

Ahead of the November 2nd, 2024 Local Government Area Election, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) chairmanship candidate for Umuahia North, has called on the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC),to ensure the forthcoming LGA election is free and fair.

According to him, a level playing ground should be given to all candidates across party lines, ensuring the processes are transparent and accountable, devoid of impartiality,

In a media chat with our Correspondent, the APGA candidate, High Chief Raymond Ofoegbu, said even though, he has full confidence that the electoral body in Abia would deliver equitably, said the commission should not disappoint Abians.

Ofoegbu said he has no doubt on the outcome of the election, going by what transpired during the 2023 Governorship election, where the People's mandate was delivered to the people.

He said the electoral trajectory in Abis has changed, stating that Abia has grown passed god -fatherism and all forms of electoral malpractices, commending the returning officer for the 2023 governorship election, Prof Nnenna Oti,for setting a new template in the electoral system in Abia State.

The APGA candidate, however, called on the ABSIEC to ride on the new template provided, stating that the Local Government Area election is crucial to Abia's development, urging for a level playing ground to be given, so as to ensure credible candidates that would replicate the governor's giant strides across Local Government Areas to emerge.

He further disclosed that even though his overall confidence is on God, the ABSIEC should use the forthcoming election to write their name in gold, toeing the path of Prof Nnenna Oti, who was globally celebrated just by allowing the mandate of the people prevail.

Meanwhile, the APGA candidate called on Abians to come out en-masse come November 2nd and vote in their preferred candidates, commending Governor Alex Otti for changing the narrative in Abia, where mediocrity, god-fatherism, incompetence, impunity and others held sway.

He , however, pledged to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Umuahia North Local Government Area, particularly on the area of sports, youth development, health care, education and others, emphasizing that his developmental roadmap is drawn from the late Primer of Eastern region, M.I Okpara, whose legacies in Umuahia North are still standing till date.
