The People's Democratic Party(PDP), Abia state, has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the former governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and the Senator representing Abia Central District, Sen Austin Akobundu, on their prestigious Michael Okpara Leadership Award, the Premier’s Prize.
The party in a Press Statement signed by the Head of Abia PDP Media Team, Elder Abraham Amah, said the recent recognition of the duo, is a testament to their exemplary services and leadership qualities displayed while in office.
It stated that the ex Governor's commitment to the development and progress of Abia state, has not gone unnoticed,as the award reflects the enduring impact of his contributions to the society.
The Party equally appreciated the acknowledgement of the legacy of the Premier of Eastern Niger, Dr Michael Okpara, which it stated, inspires all to uphold the values of excellent leadership and community service.
“As a party, we are proud of Dr. Ikpeazu’s achievements and the positive changes he brought to Abia State. We encourage him to continue his advocacy for good governance and the upliftment of our people".
Similarly, the Party disclosed that the recognition of Senator Austin Akobundu was apt, as his numerous services span across Abia state and beyond, adding that his commitment to the development and progress of Abia and Nigeria,cannot go unnoticed.
The party while congratulating him for setting an exemplary leadership for Abia PDP to follow at this time of the Party's rebranding, pointed that the award reflects the enduring impact of the Lawmaker's contributions to the society.

Recall that the 2024 Michael Okpara Leadership Award, was held yesterday at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, and was used to honour and recognize Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in public service.
Dr Michael Okpara who could be fondly remembered for his examplary leadership style, invested massively in agriculture and infrastructure, establishing the Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation to promote investment in agriculture; setting up the Farm Settlement Scheme to move farmers to new areas with amenities and tools; organising the Back to Land programme to upgrade food security through each-one-owns-a-farm; building rural infrastructure for agricultural mass production and marketing locally and abroad; creating estates, providing incentives and services for cash crops cultivation and promotion.
The award was designed to recognize and honor leaders who embody the exemplary leadership qualities of the late Dr. Michael Okpara, replicating his visionary and selfless leadership style in their respective states and contributing to the betterment of Nigeria as a whole.
