Bayelsa State Bids Emotional Farewell to Late Commissioner


The Bayelsa State Government has paid glowing tributes to the late Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment, and Social Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, during a solemn valedictory session on Friday 28 February 2025 at the Executive Council Chambers in Government House, Yenagoa.



Recall that Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, in what was described as a deeply saddening loss to the state


Leading the session on Friday, Governor Douye Diri expressed deep sorrow over her passing, describing it as a painful reminder of the transient nature of life. He highlighted her invaluable contributions to the administration and praised her as a pillar of support to both him and the entire cabinet.


"Her unwavering devotion to God was evident in her active participation in our morning devotions and monthly praise nights at the Government House chapel. Her faith was an inspiration to us all," Governor Diri remarked.

He urged colleagues, friends, and family members to take solace in the legacy she left behind, emphasizing that her good works and dedication to service would continue to live on.


"As I listened to the tributes, it became clear that her life was filled with cherished memories and impactful stories. Though words may not fully capture the depth of our loss, we must hold onto faith and find comfort in the lives she touched," he added.


Several members of the State Executive Council, including Chief Sunday Omiloli (Labour and Productivity), Moses Teibowei (Works and Infrastructure), Daniel Igali (Sports), Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai (Information, Orientation, and Strategy), Thompson Amule (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), and Biriyai Dambo SAN (Attorney-General), took turns to pay tribute. They described Mrs. Bidei as a compassionate and selfless leader who was deeply committed to public service and the welfare of Bayelsans.


Her colleagues praised her dedication, humility, and passion for uplifting the less privileged, noting that she was always willing to go the extra mile to support those in need. They prayed for strength and comfort for her family during this difficult time.


Following the valedictory session, government officials, friends, and well-wishers joined the grieving family for her final burial rites in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
