Bayelsa Utd Elevates Two Junior Players

Ahead of the commencement of the new Nigeria Premier Football League ( NPFL ) season, Bayelsa United have promoted two of its youth team players, David Weke and Stanley Idon to their senior team.

The club announced David and Stanley's elevation on Wednesday at the Samson Siasia Stadium after the team's training exercise.

It said the promotion of the two players became imperative following their impressive performance and their dedication to training.

Reacting to the development, Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United, Ladan Bosso hailed the players for the show of consistency in their careers, urging them not to rest on their oars.

According to him, after watching the just concluded Prosperity Cup, he was able to spot some players that he felt needed promotion to the first team, maintaining that he is confident of the players' abilities to deliver.

He heaped praises on the club's academy coaches for their commitment towards the teams, stating that their efforts was yeilding the desired results.

Also, Chairman of Bayelsa United, Mr. Ebiki Timitimi on behalf of the Board lauded Coach Ladan Bosso for the collaboration with the Academy Coaches.

He explained that the duo of David and Stanley are players who have proven to their handlers that they are ready to compete with their peers at the highest level both in character and on the pitch.

Ebiki asserted that the essence of the feeder team was for players to graduate to the first team rather than spending huge resources to acquire players outside the state, pointing out it is in line with the Governor's dream of taking the youths out of the creeks.

He appreciated the Sports loving duo of Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the Commissioner for Sports Development Dr. Daniel Igali for giving sports premium attention in the state.

Bayelsa United last week emerged champions of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season tournament, beating Bendel Insurance 7-6 on penalties to clinch the trophy and the prize money.

The Prosperity Boys, as they are also known, smiled home with N1.5 million, second place Bendel Insurance got N1,000,000 naira while Akwa United received N500,000 for finishing third in the tournament.
