Governor Bassey Otu has declared Thursday and Friday public holidays in Cross River State.
According to a statement by Governor Otu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nsa Gill, the public holidays are due to the 2024 Local Government election holsing on 2nd November across the state.
"In a bid to ensure full participation of all Cross Riverians in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2nd, His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu has declared Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, 2024, as public holidays across the State, the statement said.
It added that “The decision is to allow ample time for those who have to travel from Calabar to various parts of the state, particularly those in far-flung areas, who have to exercise their civic duty and vote in the election.
The statement further added that Governor Otu urges “all residents to take advantage of the two-day holidays to engage in the electoral process and make their voices heard."
