Edo Governorship Election: A Do-or-die - Affair - Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki issued a stern warning on Saturday, stating that any attempt at electoral malpractice by the opposition party during the upcoming governorship election would be met with severe consequences, including loss of life.

He made this statement during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Ekemwan, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for a free and fair election.

Obaseki's warning comes as tensions rise ahead of the highly contested election.

“The person I took over from had no respect for our people, had no respect for women, encouraged prostitution and women trafficking.

“When I took over office our pensioners wore black on Labour Day buy today they wear white.

“When I took office, our youths had no jobs, but today don’t they have jobs? After eight years is Edo not one of the safest in Nigeria?

“This election is a do or die, if they do, we will die. Next week Saturday by this time, vote for PDP to become the next governor.”

Similarly, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, issued a warning against anyone trying to manipulate the governorship election in Edo State which takes place next week.

Atiku made it clear that Edo is not Lagos, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) is able to manipulate elections.

The former Vice President urged the citizens of the state to safeguard their votes to avoid any rigging.

“If you remember four years ago they threatened us, didn’t they do that? They said they won’t allow us to win in Edo State.

“But what did we show them, ‘we showed them that Edo State no be Lagos,’ didn’t we do it?

“So this time again, we are going to show them that ‘Edo no be Lagos.’ They can’t steal votes here, therefore, protect, defend, escort your votes.

“Make sure your votes are entered, make sure your results are announced, of you do that no Jupiter will come and change your votes.

“You are winning next week, do you agree? ‘Edo no be Lagos”Atiku said.

The people of Edo State will there by be voting for the next governor of the state on Saturday, September 21st.

The governorship election is poised between Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
