The Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Onniye Isaac, recently welcomed a delegation of health workers to his office as part of activities marking the ongoing Optimized Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week.
This was disclosed by Thorpe Okokoyoh Henry, Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area.
The event also coincides with the formal introduction of the malaria vaccine into the routine immunization programme in the area.
The MNCH Week, running from December 4th to 8th, 2024, is aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes by addressing critical health challenges.
The initiative focuses on delivering essential healthcare services to underserved communities, particularly in rural areas of the LGA.
During their visit, the health team briefed Hon. Onniye on the programme's progress and sought his support to ensure its successful execution.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Azigere Martins, a Health Educator, expressed gratitude to the Chairman for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector in Ekeremor.
Martins commended Hon. Onniye’s vision and consistent support for health-related initiatives, emphasizing how his leadership has fostered a conducive environment for such programme to thrive.
In his remarks, Hon. Onniye Isaac thanked the health workers for their dedication to the well-being of the community. He emphasised the critical importance of healthcare delivery, particularly in reaching remote and underserved areas within the LGA.
“The health and welfare of our people remain a priority for this administration. Your efforts in bringing essential services closer to the grassroots are commendable,” the Chairman stated. He charged the health team to ensure the program’s effective implementation across all corners of the LGA.
Hon. Onniye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives and urged the team to maximize the impact of the MNCH Week for the benefit of the people of Ekeremor.
Other members of the delegation included Mrs. Alari Roselyn, Local Government Immunization Officer (LIO); Mr. Bokoru Ebilaboderi, State Technical Focal Person; and Alaki Ruth Miss-ere, Nutrition Focal Person.

Hon. Onniye joined former colleagues from the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in visiting the Aleibiri Community to sympathize with Rt. Hon. Ebebi and his family during this period of mourning. The visit underscored solidarity and shared grief within the Bayelsa political community.
As a pioneer member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, representing Ekeremor Constituency 3, Hon. Onniye reflected on the significant loss to both the Ebebi family and the Aleibiri community.
