Ekomaru Urges Imolites To Enroll In Free Health Insurance


Imo State Government has urged the people of the state to take advantage of its free health insurance scheme by enrolling in the scheme.


The state Deputy Governor Lady Chinyere Ekomaru made the call on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 when the leader of Society for Family Physicians of Nigeria(SOFPON), Egwim Jideuma paid her a courtesy visit at her office at Government House, Owerri, Imo State capital 


Lady Ekomaru requested the society to help encourage the citizens to enroll in the free health insurance scheme.


She also called on doctors to advise their patients to take to good nutrition and regular exercises to avert some health challenges. 


This, she said, they could achieve through seminars, workshops, the mass media and other forms of public awareness and campaign on health.


The Deputy Governor declared that her boss Governor Hope Uzodimma has done well in all sectors, especially, in the health sector.


She recounted the huge investment of the Governor in the Health Insurance Scheme, to help Imolites access free and quality healthcare.


She said; "The Governor has done so well and needs our prayers and support, to continue to serve us well. So, help him and the state in educating our people on the importance of health insurance.


"A common saying has it that health is wealth, so, a healthy state is also a wealthy state. We must assist the government in any little way we can, to achieving a wealthy state as the state belongs to all of us'', the Deputy Governor said.


Earlier, the leader of the SOFPON, Dr. Egwim Jideuma lauded the governor's commitment to the wellbeing of Imolites through his investment in the health sector..


Dr. Jideuma noted with a sense of pride, that Imo state is the leading light in health insurance and commended Senator Hope Uzodimma for the feat.


Dr. Egwim also elaborated on the scope of Family Medicine, highlighting that it is all encompassing in the practice of medicine, as it networks with other departments to get the best for the patients.


He requested for a healthy partnership with the state government and other relevant agencies to achieve a universal health coverage.


Dr Jideuma seized the opportunity to invite the Deputy Governor to their upcoming National Conference holding in Owerri, the Imo state capital. 


He emphasized that the National Conference will help to showcase the enviable strength of Imo state in the health sector.


The Principal Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. John Njoku! Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir (Barr) Tobechi Ekomaru, Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Lynda Ogbuu joined the Deputy Governor in playing host to Dr. Jideuma and his entourage.
