FG Committed To Youth Development - Minister

The Federal Government says that they are more than ready to facilitate national unity and to promote development of youths across the country by establishing effective programs and strategies that align with their needs.


This is coming from the Minister of State for Youth Development, Olawande Ayodele, when a delegation from the Nigeria Youths Union paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.


In a statement obtained today, Wednesday, the 23rd of October, 2024, signed by the president of the Nigeria Youth Union, Chinonso Obasi, the minister made the declaration following the demands offered by the Nigeria Youth Union during the visit.


The youth’s minister while speaking, stated that the delegation requested for actions to be taken in reorganizing and addressing the Nigerian youth structure and to bring an improved orientation to Nigerian youths on the need for national unity and cohesion.


In his words, the minister said that the Nigeria Youth Union president in his remarks reminded him of how badly the nation’s economy, insecurity, unemployment, lack of infrastructural development and  other issues have pulled down youths from productivity.


 “The NYU President unequivocally reminded the Hon. Minister how badly the bad economy, insecurity, unemployment, and lack of infrastructure are biting wholeheartedly on Nigerian youths,” he stated.


Responding to the delegation that arrived at his office, the minister praised NYU’s efforts in advocating for improvements in critical areas such as primary local government autonomy, youth inclusion in governance, anti-corruption efforts, healthcare, addressing illegal mining amongst other issues.


The minister also reaffirmed the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with the group in addressing emerging concerns in the nation that affects every youth.


“The Nigerian Youth Union has been at the forefront of advocating for a better Nigeria,” the minister said.


“We are ready to work together on patriotic calls aimed at fostering national solidarity and the development of our youth.”


The federal government has earlier stated that, Nigeria’s youth plays key role in National Development efforts and that they are committed to settng up a clear policy framework to ensure that the enabling environment is created for them to maximally realize their creative and productive potentials.


They also said that strategies to mainstream youth concerns into national development efforts are receiving priority attention in order to properly face up to the challenges thrown up by commitment to human capital development with special emphasis on youths.
