Nigeria's U-17 women's national team, the Flamingos, secured a victory against host nation Dominican Republic early Wednesday in Santo Domingo during the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when midfielder Shakirat Moshood struck from 25 yards with a powerful left-footed shot, marking her fourth goal of the tournament.

This win was the Flamingos' third consecutive victory, positioning them as Group A leaders ahead of Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and New Zealand, with a total of nine points.
They have shown remarkable form in the tournament, winning their first two matches, netting a total of eight goals, and allowing just one.
Speaking ahead of the game, Olowokoore voiced confidence that the girls would make Nigeria proud in the tournament,.
“I will not change our messages to Nigerians but to thank and appreciate them for their support. They should keep supporting us and having kept these vigils, it will not go in vain. Anytime they are watching us, we will give them joy, and we are going to make them proud. This is a promise that we made to them before we left Nigeria, and we are fulfilling the promise to them for them to be proud of us.”
Meanwhile the FIFA U-17 WWC took to their official X handle, highlighting that the Nigerian game is the highest-attended football match for any Dominican Republic National Team, which saw a record of 13,535 attendees.
Moving on, the Flamingos will compete against their U.S. counterparts in the tournament's quarter-final match.
