The Rivers State Youth Parliament has called on the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings on Governor Siminialayi Fubara for failing to present the 2024 Appropriation bill to the legally constituted Assembly members.
The Speaker of Rivers State Youth Parliament, Wisdom Bruce said this during the Youth Parliament's inaugural seating in Port Harcourt shortly after the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Rivers State Chapter Nwisari Bani constituted the House.
The Speaker of Rivers State Youth Parliament Wisdom Bruce further condemned the actions of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara for allegedly spending government funds without appropriation.
Wisdom Bruce while reading the resolutions of the House during its inaugural seating said that the action of the Governor contravenes the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We have watched with dismay as the Governor continues to fragrantly disregard the constitution and the rule of law in the spending of taxpayers’ money without budgetary approval even after the President’s intervention, his action is a clear violation of sections 120 and 121 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We therefore call on the Rivers State House of Assembly ably led by Rt. Hon Martin Amaewhule to initiate impeachment proceedings against the Governor of Rivers State” he said.
The Speaker of the Rivers State Youth Parliament further promised to use the platform to project the interest of the youths in the state.
He said that the Youth parliament would create a channel of discussion between the youths and relevant authorities.
“This parliament will be a platform for us to come together to share ideas, represent the various interests of the youths of our various constituencies, and work towards the common goal of our generation and the youths at large. I urge you all as my honourable colleagues to take advantage of this platform to express your opinions, showcase your talents and contribute to the development of the state.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN Rivers State Chapter Wisabani Bani while inaugurating the Rivers State Youth Parliament tasked them to use the platform to project the interest of the youths in the state.
Wisabari Bani noted that the Youth Parliament would serve as a springboard for leadership training for youths in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the Speaker of the Rivers State Youth Parliament Wisdom Bruce also appointed Heads of Committees to oversee the affairs of Adhoc committees.
