The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress and Kano State's former governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has extended heartfelt condolences and financial support to the families of five police officers who tragically lost their lives while returning from Edo State , where they went for an official duty.
To alleviate the financial burden on the bereaved families, he generously donated N20 million.
This gesture follows a long-standing tradition of empathy and support from Governor Ganduje, who previously donated N5 million and 50 bags of rice to victims of the Kano Mosque attack.
Ganduje made the Statement while commiserating with the families of the falling police officers in Bichi town, Kano State, on Saturday.
"We are here not for celebrations but for condolence to sympathize with the families, IGP, and the entire Kano of those that died while returning from a national assignment, which occurred last two weeks”, he said.
Ganduje stated that it has been the norm of their party and his Government to always condole with families in grief, and be with them to comfort them and make them feel that they are not alone in the sad moment.
The APC national chair described the tragic accident as a devastating moment, not just for the Police Force, but for himself and the entire nation.
He lamented that five brave officers lost their lives instantly, while 10 others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
He added, “I decided to personally come down to Bichi because of the enormity of the death, and because the officers gallantly died in active national service”.
The National Chairman of APC, who still recognised Bichi as a First Class Emirate Council, said, “As far as I’m concerned Bichi has a First Class Emir."
Ganduje however personally donated N2 million to the five family members, while 10 others who sustained various degrees of injuries were given N1 million each.
Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Appropriation, who was also with Ganduje, expressed shock and sadness over the incident while noting that he was personally touched and that he feels the pain of those who died and left their families behind.
He said that as a member of his Federal Constituency, Bichi, he sees the death as that which is of his family and he took it personally and felt the grief.
