Iwuanyanwu: Imo Govt Lauds LOC's Preparations

The Imo State Government has commended the Local Organizing Committee(LOC) for the burial ceremony of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.


Government said it is satisfied at the preparations being made by the LOC and its various subcommittees.


The state Deputy Governor Lady Chinyere Ekomaru gave the commendation on Saturday when she undertook an unscheduled visit to the hometown of the deceased elder statesman and later to the Cathedral Church of St Matthew's Amawo, Atta Ikeduru, venue of the funeral mass.


Lady Ekomaru said she is happy the LOC was up to speed to ensure nothing was left undone in giving the lgbo leader a befitting farewell.


She described Chief Iwuanyanwu as business and political colossus who deserves all honour due a great hero.


According to her, "I am happy that every arrangement is going on as planned. I'm optimistic of a peaceful and befitting funeral ceremony in honour and respect for the late industrialist who lived a peaceful life".


A member of the Local Organizing Committee LOC and former Imo State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Chief Bon Unachukwu assured the deputy governor that everything would be in perfect shape to herald the peaceful exit of the frontline politician.


Chief Unachukwu said the LOC and its various subcommittees were working round the clock to ensure that all was put in place before the interment of the elder statesman.


Lady Ekomaru was accompanied on the visit by her husband, Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru SAN and her son and Deputy Chief of Staff, Tobechi, who is also a lawyer


The Chairman, Ikeduru Local Government Area Hon Justice Nze received the deputy governor and her entourage and later took them to the deceased 's widow, Frances and son, Jide. 


Recall that Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu died on July 25, 2024 at a hospital in Abuja where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.


His burial is slated for November 1 at Atta Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.


He succeeded Prof George Obiozor as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide in 2022 after the death of the professor.


Incidentally, Chief Iwuanyanwu also died as PG of the apex Igbo socio-political organization.
