Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged citizens of the state to collaborate closely with the military to ensure enduring peace and security within the region. The Governor made this call during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day service held at the King of Glory Chapel in the Government House, Yenagoa, where he expressed his deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Nigerian military.
Governor Diri acknowledged the vital role of the military in maintaining peace across the country, particularly in ensuring the unity of Nigeria. He emphasized that the state government is committed to continuing its partnership with the military to foster peace and security in Bayelsa and beyond.
"We gather today to give thanks for the lives of a very special group of people—those who have dedicated their lives to preserving the peace and unity of our country," Governor Diri said in his address to the congregation. "We honor the memory of those who paid the supreme price for our collective well-being, and we pledge to continue our support for the armed forces of Nigeria, especially those stationed in Bayelsa. Their work in collaboration with our state has been crucial in maintaining peace."
The Governor further stressed that the state government would remain steadfast in its commitment to working alongside the military to ensure a peaceful and secure Bayelsa. He acknowledged that the state's cooperation with the armed forces has been a key factor in achieving stability, and reiterated that such collaboration will continue to be a priority for his administration.
The event, which was well-attended, featured several prominent leaders, including Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere. The service was also attended by a number of other key figures, such as Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd.), the immediate past deputy governor and Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council, and Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, Chief Judge of Bayelsa State. She was represented by Hon. Justice Daniel Ayah, President of the Customary Court of Appeal.
Also present at the service were Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the State Government; Barr. (Mrs) Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, Head of Service; Dr. Peter Akpe, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House; members of the State Executive Council; service commanders; traditional rulers; and other top government officials.
