The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has taken a significant step towards addressing the minimum wage conundrum in the state.

According to him, the committee's mandate is to ensure that every employee in the state, not just civil servants, receives a salary boost. This move further demonstrates Governor Otti's commitment to improving the welfare of all workers in Abia State.

In addition to the minimum wage issue, Governor Otti also addressed the initiative to return civil servants to the classroom, explaining that the program has been put on hold, as the government cannot force individuals without a passion for teaching into the profession. Instead, his administration is identifying individuals who have studied education or attended Teacher's Training Colleges, pointing out that he is planning to offer special incentive packages to attract and retain quality teachers.

Furthermore, the number one citizen of Abia state, shed light on the Supreme Court's pronouncement on Local Government Autonomy, assuring that an election would be held and that the State Government is making necessary preparations for a seamless process.

He maintained that his focus on education and his decision to conduct the Local Government election, underscores his commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable future for Abia, stating that the people should be expecting positive changes in the days ahead.

Recall, that the Governor during his message at the 2024 Workers' Day celebration had assured Abia workers that as soon as, the new wage is agreed upon by the Federal Government, Abia would be among the first States to implement it.

Our Correspondent gathered that Governor Otti's actions demonstrated his dedication to addressing the pressing issues facing Abia State and establishing a committee to tackle the minimum wage challenge, comes on the heels of uncertainty within the civil service since the 70,000 Naira Minimum Wage was agreed between, the Federal Government and organised Labour. run
