Gov. Otu Suspends Recruitment for teachers in C’River

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has suspended the scheduled interview for the 2024 State Secondary Education Board secondary school teachers’ recruitment after the proposed interview failed.

The interview was slated to hold in different locations across the state in the three senatorial districts, the southern, northern and central senatorial district on the proposed dates for the interview. Mr. Paulinus Eno, Ag. Chairman/Director of Administration, Cross River State Secondary Education Board, had slated the program for 22nd 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th September and didn’t hold due to the suspension from the governor.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, on Thursday, announced the immediate suspension of the scheduled interview, after several questions were asked why the interview didn’t hold noting that Mr Paulinus Eno, Ag Chairman/Director of Administration does not have the authority to fix a date for the interview while directing him to meet with the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, for further instructions concerning the interview.

On this note “His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has instructed the immediate suspension of the scheduled interviews for teaching positions at the Secondary Education Board, announced by the Director of Administration of the Board.

“The due constitution of the State Secondary Education Board is receiving Government attention. The action of the Director of Administration scheduling employment interviews is unauthorised as it is inappropriate for one individual to assume the responsibilities of the entire Board.

“Therefore, the interviews are hereby postponed, and the Director of Administration is directed to promptly meet with the Secretary to the State Government Anthony Owan-Enoh.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has also instructed that moving forward no announcement should be made without his notice or the commissioner of education in the state, stating that the director of administration and the secondary education board is under ministry of education and therefore should work with the ministry and not take decisions on its own.

“All inconvenience is regretted,” the statement read, and all applicants have been advised to hold on till further instructions from the secretary to the state government.
