Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed unwavering faith in the divine power of God to overcome any challenges or adversaries threatening the state's progress as it enters the new year. The Governor made these remarks during a powerful crossover service held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Opobo Town, in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, on the night of January 1, 2025.
In the early hours of the New Year, Governor Fubara led the congregation in a spirited rendition of a gospel song, which resonated through the church: "At the mention of your name, every knee shall bow. At the mention of your name, every tongue confess. That you are Lord, you are Lord, you are King, you are King of kings." This song, according to the Governor, was not only a source of comfort but also a call to strengthen the people’s trust in God, whose power alone can guide the state to greater victories in the coming year.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his faith in God's protection and strength, stating, "The Red Biro is still filled. It is still here with me. Every plan of the enemy will continue to crash." He wished everyone a prosperous and victorious New Year, emphasizing his firm belief that no enemy, whether internal or external, can stand against the divine will of God for the state.
The service, which marked the official entry into 2025, was conducted by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Niger Delta, Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja. Reflecting on the turbulent year of 2024, Bishop Oko-Jaja spoke about the various challenges faced by the people of the state, including conspiracies, attacks, economic hardships, and ill-health. However, he assured the congregation that despite these struggles, God’s grace had prevailed, and the people had emerged stronger.
Bishop Oko-Jaja further delivered a message of hope and triumph, proclaiming that in 2025, those who remained grateful and faithful would witness continued victory. He prayed for the peace, unity, and prosperity of Rivers State, aligning his prayers with the state's goals outlined in the 2025 Budget for Inclusive Growth and Development.
The crossover service was filled with fervent praise and worship, with the church choir leading the congregation into the New Year. As the clock struck midnight, shouts of "Happy New Year" echoed throughout the church, signaling the start of a new chapter for the people of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara was joined at the service by key dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo; Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Edison Ehie; members of the National Assembly, including Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, Hon. Boma Goodhead, and Hon. Anderson Igbiks; the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja; and other prominent leaders such as Senator Adawari Michael Pepple, former Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro, and several members of the State Executive Council and Local Government Council chairmen.
The service was a reminder of the strength of faith and unity as the state and its people look forward to a year of renewed hope, growth, and progress.
