Governor Uzodinma Set To Pay 70K Minimum Wage

The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has expressed readiness towards ensuring quick and prompt implementation of the new national minimum wage of N70,000 .

This recent development, according to governor Uzodinma, is coming following a comprehensive meeting between the government and the State Chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress, held in the state capital at the government House.

While addressing newsmen in Owerri at the Government House, governor Hope Uzodinma said that the move was aimed at handling the negative effects of inflation that led to the high cost of living in the country.

The Imo state governor emphasized that his administration was committed to enhancing the well-being of the State’s workforce amid economic stagnation that is ravaging the country.

He also stated that implementing the new policy shows his administration’s commitment to ensuring that workers received fair compensation for their contributions and their hard-work towards economic progression of the state.

The Governor encouraged the State Civil Servants to boost their productivity and dedication to delivering what he described as high-quality services to the good people of Imo State.

In his words, he said : “In line with our commitment to Imo workers, I held a productive meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the State to draft modalities for the swift implementation of the new national minimum wage for the State workers.

“The discussion progressed smoothly and I am optimistic that with the pace we have set, the implementation of the new wage structure will commence in no distant time,” he assured.

Confirming the new development, the State Chapter Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Chigemezu Nwigwe expressed confidence and satisfaction in the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, revealing that plans are already underway to implementing the new wage structure and that in no time workers willl smile home to the bank.

Earlier before now, following negotiations amongst organised labour, the Nigerian government, and the organised private sector, an agreement has been reached on setting the country's minimum wage at ₦70,000.

This wage will be subject to review every three years to ensure it remains in line with economic conditions that will pop in the country.
