Hensard University, Toru-Orua Holds Inaugural Matriculation

Hensard University, Bayelsa State's first private university, marked a milestone on Friday, December 13, 2024, with its inaugural matriculation and induction ceremony.


The ceremony was held at the university’s campus in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, as it marked the official enrollment of students into its undergraduate and foundation programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.


Speaking at the ceremony, the Chancellor and Founder of Hensard University, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, congratulated the pioneering students and described the occasion as a landmark moment for the institution.


He emphasized the university's mission to produce graduates who excel academically and embody entrepreneurial excellence.


According to him, the institution is committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to transform society and create global impact.


Senator Dickson, who also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, highlighted the unique features of Hensard University, including its dual certification programmes, international collaborations, and state-of-the-art teaching facilities.


Dickson reaffirmed the university’s dedication to fostering discipline, character formation, and service to humanity.


On his social media page earlier today, the Sentator also reiterated that education is the only reliable tool to be used in changing any human society calling on students to be focused, do their utmost, knowing the high standards the University has set.


Meanwhile, the acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Gentle Emelah, commended Senator Dickson's vision and relentless dedication to education.


He assured the university of the state government’s support in ensuring it achieves its mission of producing competent graduates who can lead in various fields.


Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Dileep Kumar expressed profound gratitude to Senator Dickson for his vision of educational transformation.


He stressed the university's emphasis on practical learning, research innovation, and entrepreneurial development, noting that the institution aims to prepare students to compete globally.


Dr. Kumar encouraged students to make full use of the academic and entrepreneurial opportunities available.


However, the matriculating Students expressed gratitude for being part of the pioneer class, describing the opportunity as a dream come true.

They emphasised the institution’s focus on academic excellence and entrepreneurial training as key motivators for their enrollment.


The ceremony was graced by traditional rulers, legislators, local government officials, and other dignitaries, reflecting widespread support for the university’s vision of shaping future leaders and innovators.
