Nollywood actor Femi Branch has expressed frustration over the reported growing trend of cinemas promoting one movie above others.
In a video shared on social media, Branch alleged that some cinema staff lobby patrons into watching certain movies, assuring them that it’s better than their intended choice.
Branch emphasized that cinemas should not dictate what people watch, and he warned those engaging in this practice to stop.
‘’It is not your business to tell people what film to watch’’'' he said
He argued that this behavior creates division within the industry and appealed for an even playing field for producers.
“I wanted to talk about this, ever since I went to the cinema for “meet and greet” for Toyin Abraham’s movie “Alakada - bad and boogie”. This industry is always under bondage of someone or something”.
“We are battling with promoters and percentages they collect and now it’s the cinemas. We are already frustrated.”
“Many producers are crying and afraid of been blacklisted, so they stay quiet in pain. How long are we going to endure this pain ? Cinemas are supposed to be neutral and not take favoritism with films”.
“Let everybody have their even playing field. This issues aren’t helping actors and producers and even our economy. I don’t see the business of Cinemas preferring a certain movie over another. Allow producers have their film paid time in the cinema, even if it’s just two persons that come to watch the movie, it’s okay, that’s 2 tickets for the producer atleast”.
