The Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to a House of Representatives member for Aba North and South, Alex Ikwechegh on the sum of N500,000.
Ikwechegh was arraigned for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his Abuja residence.
The Counsel to the bolt driver, Deji Adeyanju, had earlier confirmed that Ikwechegh, the defendant in the matter will be arraigned today by noon time before the court.
The lawmaker went viral in a video on social media for allegedly assaulting the bolt driver.
In the video, the lawmaker could be heard threatening the driver and assuring him that he could make him disappear without a trace.
The Court arraigned Ikwechegh on Wednesday on a three-court charge bordering on assault and threat to life.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by the IGP. His counsel then proceeded to make an oral application for his bail.
The magistrate granted the application, accompanied with a bail sum of N500,000 and two sureties addition, with another condition that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and further provide utility bills as proof of residence.
The case was adjourned till November 8th, 2024.
