The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to arraign former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday, following his arrest on November 26, 2024.
Yahaya is facing serious charges of financial fraud, embezzlement, and the mismanagement of state funds during his time in office from 2016 to 2023. The EFCC is investigating claims of money laundering linked to over N110 billion in misappropriated funds.
Yahaya is being held at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he is currently being interrogated. He faces 19 charges, along with co-defendants, including his nephew Ali Bello, associates Dauda Suliman and Abdulsalam Hudu.
These charges stem from alleged fraudulent activities that involve significant sums of public money. Despite requests for bail from co-defendants, a high court hearing has been scheduled for November 27, 2024, with the prosecution seeking further legal action in this high-profile corruption case.
