Kaduna Residents Celebrate as TCN Restores Electricity

Residents in parts of Kaduna State took to the streets in celebration after electricity was finally restored to their community, marking the end of a prolonged blackout.

In a viral video posted by an X user identified as #Imranmuhdz on X.com, residents could be heard jubilantly chanting “Nepa, Nepa tadawo” in Hausa, which translates to “Nepa, Nepa has returned,” expressing their relief and excitement at the return of power.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed on Wednesday that electricity supply had been partially restored to seven northern states, including Kaduna, which had experienced extensive outages due to the vandalization of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

The power outage had significantly disrupted power distribution across the region, leaving Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe without electricity for a period of nine days.

TCN announced that power was restored to these affected areas by 4:56 PM on Wednesday following the repair of the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1.

In a statement, TCN assured the public of its commitment to maintaining infrastructure security and preventing further disruptions.

The company noted the severe impact the blackout had on businesses and households across the seven states and reiterated the need for enhanced protection of critical transmission lines from vandalism.

Meanwhile, residents in Bayelsa State continue to anxiously await power restoration following a prolonged blackout that has severely impacted economic activities in the area.

TCN had confirmed that electricity will soon return to Bayelsa after a grueling two-month outage caused by damage to transmission towers in Ahoada, Rivers State.

TCN took to social media to address growing concerns from Bayelsans, revealing that 65% of the necessary repairs on the vandalized 132kV Ahoada-Yenagoa transmission line towers have been completed.

Seventeen of the damaged towers have been successfully re-erected, leaving only three remaining.

TCN announced that they are poised to begin the next phase of the project, which involves stringing conductors, hoisting insulators, and clamping hardware.

Despite challenges posed by the swampy terrain, TCN has assured residents that contractors are working relentlessly to meet a projected completion date of November 6, 2024.

This update brings hope to Bayelsa residents and business owners who have struggled through the blackout.

The lack of electricity has strained local commerce and disrupted daily life, emphasising the essential role that a stable power supply plays in sustaining both economic activity and community welfare.
