The Governor Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has said that his government is not going back on the scheduled Local Government election in the state, come October 26, 2024.
Yusuf made the declaration during the presentation of NNPP flags to the forty-four (44) chairmanship and councilorship candidates at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening, in the Kano, the state capital.
This is coming despite a Federal High Court judgement voiding the poll over what it termed “having card-carrying NNPP members as executive officers of the election commission.”
He stated that his administration and the state condemns any act or persons that will want to destabilize the already existing peace in Kano state.
In his statement he said : “At this moment, the state will not allow anybody to destabilize the existing peace being enjoyed by the citizenry.”
According to the governor, the state government and Kano State Independent Electoral Commission have all the constitutional backing to hold the election without it’s cancellation.
“We have satisfied all the conditions laid down by the law and we have completed all necessary preparations for the conduct of the elections on Saturday, as such, the polls must take place as planned’’
“We are aware of plans by enemies of the state to truncate this election, but by the grace of Allah, they will not succeed; the elections will be conducted peacefully and credibly,” Yusuf said
He further stated that the state government is ready to swear in the candidates declared winners by the electoral body.
The governor urged NNPP card-carrying members to go back to their respective wards and prepare well for the election, commending them for being real supporters of the party.
Yusuf also expressed total confidence that the party would win all the positions of 44 chairmen as well as 484 councillors, considering the massive support it is enjoying from the people in the state.
On his part, the Acting National Chairman of NNPP, Dr Audu Ajuji, expressed optimism that the election would be peaceful, adding that the party is confident it will emerge victorious without any hitches.
Adding his voice, the state NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, described the gathering as outstanding in view of the number of supporters who attended the party event.
