Lagos Gov Sanwo-Olu Announces N85,000 Minimum Wage

In a groundbreaking development for Lagos State workers, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed his administration's plan to increase the minimum wage to N85,000, making Lagos one of the highest-paying states in the country.

During an exclusive interview on a National TV’s program "One-on-One with Babajide Sanwo-Olu" on Wednesday evening, the governor dropped the bombshell announcement, signaling a major shift in the state's wage structure.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the decision as a direct response to the needs of workers and the evolving economic landscape. He emphasized that the new minimum wage is part of his administration’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of Lagosians.

"You mentioned minimum wage and what I need to throw in for my people," Sanwo-Olu stated confidently. "I’m glad to let you know that the minimum wage for Lagos, which we’ve discussed with our union, is N85,000 today."

In a move that could set the pace for other states to follow, the Lagos governor made it clear that this wage increase is not about competition with other regions but rather about the state's capacity and affordability. "It's not a competition, so I’m not going to say that we’re paying more than some other people; it’s a function of affordability and a function of capacity," Sanwo-Olu added.
